Namungo targets to bounce back in VPL

VODACOM Premier League side, Namungo FC, has said it is confident that it will do well in its coming games despite losing 1-0 to Polisi Tanzania at Majaliwa Stadium in Lindi on Monday.

Despite the loss, Namungo FC through the club's information officer Kindamba Namlia, said they are looking forward to their Saturday game against Tanzania Prisons at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Rukwa.

He, however, praised his team for playing well against Polisi Tanzania, saying in football anything can happen.

“Despite the loss, we played well and I'm confident of good results in our coming game against Tanzania Prisons, it is an away game but we are ready for them,'' he disclosed.

''Our Monday defeat did not surprise us as it is not the first and it will not be the last for us, the only thing we need is keeping focus and prepare for our next game,” he said.

Namlia yesterday said his team is on its way to Rukwa in an effort to have enough time to prepare for the encounter and acclimatize with the region's weather.

He maintained they are well aware that the game will be difficult as both teams are coming from defeats.

“The Saturday game will be very difficult to both of us, our opponents are coming from a 2-1 defeat in the hands of KMC FC while we also lost our game against Polisi Tanzania,'' he noted.

''But we are well prepared for them, we are on our way to Rukwa for the game, we want to have enough time to prepare and acclimatize with Rukwa weather,” he said.

During the Monday game, the visitors scored their only goal through substitute Rashid Juma on the 77th minute.

It was the first win for Polisi Tanzania, who succumbed to 1-0 loss to Azam FC in their first Premier League game this season.

Namungo FC has also conceded the first loss. The club had notched 1-0 victory over Coastal Union in the opening game.

Tanzania Prisons' head coach Salum Mayanga had, after his side's defeat to KMC FC, said he is looking forward to bouncing back strongly.

“We have lost to KMC FC today (Saturday), we will go back and rectify our problems so that we can perform well in our next game against Namungo FC, the aim is that we should collect all the required points,” he said.

In other Premier League games slated for this week, Polisi Tanzania will host JKT Tanzania at Ushirika Stadium in Kilimanjaro on Friday followed by the Ihefu FC against Mtibwa Sugar tie, which will take place at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya the same day.

On Saturday, Kagera Sugar will host Yanga at Kaitaba Stadium in Bukoba and on Sunday Mbeya City FC will host Azam FC at Sokoine Stadium, Coastal Union will play Dodoma FC at Mkwakwani Stadium, the league's defending champions, Simba SC, will take on Biashara United at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Monday will see Mwadui FC play host to KMC FC at Mwadui Complex in Shinyanga, Ruvu Shooting will confront Gwambina FC at Mabatini venue in Coast Region.
