Northern Zone athletes should register early for 2022 Kili Marathon

PREPARATIONS for the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Marathon's 20th anniversary are in top gear and organisers are now calling on participants from the Northern Zone to register on time to avoid last minute rush.

A section of runners battle it out in recent Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Marathon, which took place Moshi.

The call has come following past experience which saw most of the participants from the zone that hosts the event tend to wait until the last minute and a number of them end up being disappointed after finding out that all numbers have been sold.

“We are calling on people from Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Tanga, Manyara to register now as registration is online through and via TigoPesa by dialling *149*20#,” Aggrey Marealle, Managing Director of Executive Solutions, whose company is the National Coordinator of Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Marathon, disclosed.

He said next year’s event is expected to be much bigger as it marks the 20th anniversary hence participants need to register and ensure they have their confirmation.

“It is always sad to see people from Moshi or Arusha missing out numbers while they come from the zone where the race is being held.''

''Once numbers are sold out, registration is closed on the system. There are no numbers sold at the number collection area except for the Grand Malt 5Km Fun Run if there are any left,” he said.

He said registration is easy and at the moment there is a 20% discount that will run all the way to January 7, 2022 after which the registration fee will go up.

Race Director, John Bayo, said all participants for the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager 42km, Tigo 21km and Grand Malt 5km Fun Run should start training early, ready for the historic 20th anniversary.

The official said: “We want it to be a memorable and competitive race hence preparation is key. It is our hope that this time round most of the prizes will remain at home and this will only be achieved through thorough preparations.''

''As organisers we are doing our part and we are appealing to participants to follow the issued guidelines to make this 20th anniversary a success as we expect participants from over 55 countries and a much bigger crowd,” he said.

Athletics Tanzania secretary general, Jackson Ndaweka, said they were satisfied with the preparations so far and they have been getting updates from the organisers.

“This is our biggest Athletics event which attracts over 12,000 participants from in and out of the country so we are working closely with the organisers to ensure it is a success as it puts Tanzania's athletics on an international stage. Besides providing a major trading ground for local athletes before competing abroad the event also earns the country a lot of foreign exchange due to the tourists who take advantage of the Marathon to visit various tourist attractions,” he said.

He said they were also pleased to learn that as part of the 20th anniversary celebration, the organisers will host the first ever Kili Marathon Expo Fair.

“This will highlight a lot of things about the sponsors, the Kili Marathon journey and athletics as a whole. We will be there to support this initiative too,” he said.

Sponsors of the Kili Marathon 2022 include Kilimanjaro Premium Lager-42km, Tigo-21km, Grand Malt -5km water table sponsors, Absa, Unilever, TPC Sugar, Simba Cement, Kilimanjaro Water, Kilimanjaro Leather Industries Company Limited.  and

The race's official suppliers are GardaWorld Security, Keys Hotel, Kibo Palace Hotel and CMC Automobiles.
