Oilers target silverware in RBA League

DAR ES SALAAM regional basketball league last year’s finalists, Oilers, have disclosed the success they are currently enjoying in this year's league are attributed to the investment they have put in the outfit.

Oilers, along with ABC, have so far enjoyed good performance in this year's league given they have registered three wins apiece.

Oilers opened their campaign in the league with a 60-57 win over Savio and later grabbed a 91-57 drubbing of Prisons.

The third match, which pitted Oilers against Vijana, ended with the former posting 76-64 win.

Oilers' official, Nicholaus Leonard, pointed out his club is keen on laying hands on the trophy which has eluded the outfit for three consecutive years.

He revealed the outfit is nevertheless still looking for sponsors and has requested for support from several companies.

"I believe we will get good response from the firms given they are good sports stakeholders," Leonard revealed.

According to him, his club has recruited talented players whose competence cannot be matched by other clubs' players in the league.

ABC are leading the rest of the pack in the RBA League after collecting six points and have poured in 241 goals in three matches.

Much as Oilers have tied ABC on points the former come second after having slotted in 227 goals. 

JKT have been placed fourth in the log having played two matches, scored157 goals and notching four points.

Two games have been scheduled for today, with the first pitting Don Bosco Lionesses against Kurasini Divas in the women category, the second will see Savio lock horns with Kigamboni.

In tomorrow's matches Jeshi Stars will play Ukonga Queens in the women category, Ukonga Kings will face ABC, Prisons have a date against Magone, Magnet will take on Vijana, JKT will play Pazi.

Basketball coach Masoud Ally opined this year’s event stand to be a closely contested league on grounds of the level of performance of the participating players.

He was full of praise for Oilers and Ukonga Queens saying the teams have put stellar showing.

Oilers, according to him, look to have prepared well for the event as the side’s leadership has overseen the team well.

Ukonga Queens, he disclosed, has young players and the side got the better of established outfits including JKT Stars.
