Simba face Mwadui FC acid test

MAINLAND Premier League defending champions, Simba SC, hosts Mwadui FC at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam today in a match, which is a litmus test for the former.

Simba SC players celebrate a goal the side netted in the previous season's Mainland Premier League match against Mwadui FC that was played in Dar es Salaam.

The Msimbazi Street-based side has recently been performing badly mainly in international games, having conceded 10 goals in two CAF Champions League matches against AS Vita Club of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Al Ahly of Egypt.

The club also put dismal performance in this year's Mapinduzi Cup and SportPesa Cup competitions, which ended with the outfit emerging third.

The recent results by the team has seen many football lovers in the country questioning the outfit's head coach Patrick Aussems' tactical ability, as well as the players' readiness to play tough matches.

The win in today's match, for that matter, will ease pressure on the Belgian tactician.

But speaking after arrival from Egypt Aussems asked the squad's supporters to have trust in his players and forget the away results, insisting focus should be on the future games.

He assured them that the team will start producing good results.

“We must forget the previous results and our focus should be on the future games, I am confident we have players who are very good and capable of playing any match, “he said.

Simba are expected to enter into today’s game with caution in an effort to avoid injuries as the team is preparing for next Tuesday’s return leg against Al Ahly.

The Dar es Salaam side’s coach is also likely going to use new tactics, combinations and formations as his regular 4-4-2 formation has recently proved ineffective.

Both Mwadui FC and Simba have players who are among the top 10 scores in the league.

Simba have Meddie Kagere and Emmanuel Okwi that have scored seven goals apiece while Salim Aiyee of Mwadui FC has eight goals.

In the first leg Simba who have 33 points from 14 mathes, beat Mwadui FC 3-1 at Kambarage Stadium in Shinyanga, courtesy of goals scored by John Bocco and Kagere.

Bocco, who netted twice, registered the first on the 41st minute through penalty and then scored the second on the in 45th minute, Kagere scored on the 59th minute while the hosts scored through Charles Ilanfya on the 81st minute.

Mwadui who have played 24 games have 20 points and are occupying the 16th position.

The outfit's secretary general Ramadhan Kilao however said they are ready for today's encounter.

He said his team is determined to inflict more pain on Simba SC that has been underperforming in the squad's recent games.

“We are not here to drop points, we have come with a mission to win this game, we know Simba are a big club but we will not allow them to win, our coach and players are all ready for the encounter,“ he said.
