Simba coach impressed by Bocco, Kagere exploits

SIMBA SC head coach Sven Vandenbroeck has said he is happy with the combination of his top strikers John Bocco and Meddie Kagere.

Simba forward, John Bocco.

The coach said he is of the view that the combination of the two will help the team excel in the ongoing Vodacom Premier League and Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC).

Vandenbroeck issued the comments after the two played together in Simba’s 3-0 win over Mtibwa Sugar in a league match, which took place in Morogoro on Tuesday.

“I’m of the view that if the two will be playing together, their combination will help the team very much, they play well and support each other on the field,’’ he said.

Strikers Bocco and Kagere used to play together during the reign of the then head coach Patrick Aussems.

The two players have not been playing together from the time Vandenbroeck took over due to, among other reasons, injury Bocco had sustained and was sidelined for some time.

Last year the combination of the two proved vital as Simba managed to defend the Premier League and Kagere ended as the league’s top goal scorer.

Kagere is the current leading goal scorer in the Vodacom Premier League.

He has, however, not been at his best lately, a development which has, as per some of the domestic soccer analysts, been attributed to missing Bocco on the field.

Currently, Simba SC has scored 26 goals and conceded eight in the 21 league games the squad has so far played.

Commenting on Simba’s league clash with Lipuli FC, which will be played on Saturday, Vandenbroeck said his players are ready for the encounter and they are looking forward to collecting three points.

He said the clash will, however, not be easy considering that Simba will play away and every team is fighting for points.

“At this stage of the league all games are difficult, but we are ready for the challenge ahead as our aim is to collect three points,’’ he said.
