Simba top league after opening round matches

SIMBA Sports Club which is searching for its first premiership title after four-season stint, kicked off their campaign on the rampage after breezing past visiting Ndanda FC at their National Stadium base in Dar es Salaam.

Action between Simba (in red jerseys) and Ndanda FC players during Mainland premier soccer league opener at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday. Simba won 3-1.

It is the explosive Simba that roared in the stadium to wrap up a convincing 3-1 victory and give their fans a run for their patience.

Boasting of quality line up courtesy of fresh registration, Simba have kicked off the season impressively on Saturday.

In related development,
barely four days after killing the long-standing Community Shield hoodoo, Azam FC kicked off the Mainland premier soccer league by dropping two points at the hands of newly promoted African Lyon at their own base of Chamazi on Saturday.

The ice-cram makers narrowly escaped an opening round scare as they had to pull an equaliser deep into the second half to salvage a point.

The season has started without holders Young Africans who have been spared as a result of their CAF Confederation Cup assignment in Lubumbashi. Yanga play TP Mazembe tomorrow.

However, Azam will have to adjust their approach as it seems the side is struggling to take an outright lead in competitive matches.

The team had to come from behind to pull an equaliser against Young Africans last week in the Community Shield match before turning tables in the shootout and win. Other results of the mainland premier soccer league matches played on Saturday are: Stand United vs Mbao FC 0-9; Majimaji vs Tanzania Prisons 0-1; Mtibwa Sugar vs Ruvu Shooting 0-1.
