AT’s secretary general Wilhelm Gidabuday says the 28 athletes will also represent the country at the next month’s World Cross Country to be staged in Kampala.
He says AT thought it wise pay for registration fee of the athletes so as to kick start preparations of the Cross Country.
“After the championships which was held last weekend AT technical committee selected 28 athletes who will start camping ahead of the Uganda world cross country, we agreed that it will be better to register them for the Kilimanjaro Marathon so that they can have a feel of international competition”, he said.
He said AT is still looking for a possible place for the camp ahead of Kampala event.
Gidabuday named the athletes selected to represent the country at the World Cross country as; Emmanuel Giniki, Basil John, Gabriel Geay, Fabian Joseph, Wilbado Peter and Josaphat Joshua
Women seniors in the 10 km group include Magdalena Shauri, Angelina Tsere, Failuna Abdi, Sara Ramadhani, Jackline Sakilu, Sara Kalinga. Boys juniors lined up for the 8 km are Francis Dambel, Yohana Elisante, Ramadhani Juma, Elisha Wema, Anthony Wema and Joshua Elisante.
He named women 6 km juniors as Cecilia Ginoka, Maicelina Issa, Asha Salum, Noela Remy, Elizabeth Boniface and Amina Mgoo.
Relay athletes are men Faraja Damas and Marco Sylvester while women athletes’ team was not named due to technical limitations.
He said the aim of AT is to produce athletes who can bring medals to the country.
