Mnyonge said he is fully aware of the great impact that either exercising or participation in sports, in general, has on the country.

The Kinondoni District Mayor issued his comments during a one-year celebration of a city fitness club known as Kisiwani Clinic Center (KCC) at Mwinjuma grounds, Mwananyamala.

Mnyonge revealed: "Exercises and sporting activities are good for all people, they are essential in the prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), the country is losing its workforce and productive citizens due to NCDs."

"Time has come for society to embrace exercising and sports activities," he said.

Mnyonge also hailed KCC leadership for being at the forefront of encouraging people to embrace exercising and participation in sports.

He asked the Kinondoni District authority to set aside a budget for exercise and sports activities in the district.

Samuel Laizer, Kinondoni District's Health Officer also congratulated KCC for clocking one year.

He said KCC has been a good partner of his office and promised to continue working closely with the center.

Laizer disclosed: "The Mayor has raised a pertinent issue and I will take it to my superiors and hopefully something will be done."

"For now let me assure all you here that my office will continue working closely with KCC, our common goal is to see people live a good life," he said.

Michael Machellah, one of the celebration's organizers said more than 43 jogging clubs attended the event and thanked them and other partners for the support.

More than 2500 people attended the celebration which was followed by a free heart screening conducted by experts from Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute.
