TPC secretary-general, Ramadhan Namkomveka, made the plan public yesterday after the national Paralympic side's head coach, Bahati Mgunda, presented a report on the Para athletes' participation in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics to the committee, which held a meeting in Dar es Salaam recently.

The TPC official said the report presented by Mgunda was prepared by him, South Africa-based consultant Michael Louwrens and experts from Nippon University.

It included recommendations and suggestions on the team's current and future performance at international events.

He said the meeting was very crucial as it presented TPC and the tactician with an opportunity to make recommendations on the way forward based on the performance of the team in recent games.

“He gave us a detailed report on the recent Tokyo Paralympics and suggestions on the way forward,” he said.

He said the report has recommended that TPC should maintain the current team, arrange team and individual training, athletes should attend the gym regularly, and improve body fitness.

Namkoveka also said the report has suggested that TPC should organize more events which will be used to tap more and new talents.

''TPC, Tanzania Para Athletics Association (TPAA), and other stakeholders met in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, they, among other things, the national paralympic side's coach Bahati Mgunda presented his report, he explained that lack of resources is hindering the growth of paralympic sports in the country.''

''Mgunda suggested a lot of things which include TPC's need to set bronze medal as its target at the 2024 France Paralympics," he said.

He said following the recommendations, TPC will start preparations for the 2024 Paralympics soon.

He asked stakeholders, the private sector, and others to help them to realize their dream of seeing paralympic athletes lay their hands on bronze medals at the 2024 France Paralympic Games.

At the just ended Tokyo Paralympics, the country was represented by two athletes, Sauda Njopeka and Ignas Mtweve. The TPC official said the performance of the two is very encouraging.

"The Paralympics is the biggest event, the performances of the two are very encouraging, the athletes posted season-best in their respective categories.''

''It must be known that Ignas Mtweve was the only African in his group," he said.
