TTA assistant secretary general Joshua Mutale said communication was brought to the knowledge of all members of the association to attend the extraordinary meeting at Kijitonyama Tennis Club on Monday, but only two members, himself and secretary general William Kallaghe attended.
He said National Sports Council (NSC) last week advised the association to fill the post by this week, and all TTA members were informed on the government directive.
Mutale said the vacant posts will be filled on acting basis as elections for the association will be held next year.
Vacant posts at TTA which are supposed to be filled are those of chairman and vice-chairman which were left vacant by Mathusela Mbanjo and Fina Mango, respectively. The duo resigned. The post of treasurer Joyce Malwa who is now residing in the United Kingdom (UK) is also vacant.
“The National Sports Council directed us to fill the posts left vacant by the president, vice-chairman and treasurer who are not with us, I personally phoned them and we communicated to all the members through short message service (SMS) but only two of us showed up”, he said.
He said, they will make sure that they fill the voids this week.
Mutale named members who were supposed to attend the meeting as Hassani Kassim, Moris Loje, Ernest Nyambalale, Majuto Majaliwa and Ismail Ngulinga.
However, one of the committee members Hassani Kassim confirmed to have received the communication from Mutale but could not attend it as on the agenda of the meeting there was no mention of filling the vacant posts
Kassim showed this reporter a massage purportedly to have come from Mutale which reads “Members tomorrow, 24, 2016 we will have an extraordinary meeting for executive committee members of Tanzania Tennis Association (TTA) at TTCL Grounds (Kijitonyama) starting from 11 AM, agenda of the meeting include coaches course, club verification and many more. Pls inform your attendance at the meeting”, said the short massage service (SMS)
Mutale confirmed to have sent the SMS to Kassimu, but blamed him for not attending the meeting which would have solved problems rocking the association.
“You know my friend Kassim has many problems, we invited him and others to come he did not honour the invitation and instead of solving the problems at the round table, he is trying to be an activist, in the SMS indicated that on the agenda will also be more others, he is saying to people that he can only attend TTA meeting chaired by NSC, but this was not an NSC thing it was an in-house matter, now he is busy tarnishing the image of tennis in Tanzania , I don’t know why he is doing this to the tennis in the country”, said Mutale.
