The well attended match was held at Tandika Mabatini ground in Dar es Salaam.The match that could have ended either way, went into post-match penalty shootouts following a 1-1 deadlock in normal time.
Carpet Mbagala scored first in the 16th minute through overlapping defender Rashid Bakari who raced past Twalipo defenders to score the opener. The goal was gaily celebrated by Mbagala fans who kept on chanting throughout the math. Until half time the scoreboard read 1-0.
The second half started on a quick note with Twalipo hunting for an equalizer and threw in a couple of near misses. Their efforts bore fruits on the 58th minute when striker Hassan Abdallah singlehandedly moved from the center, charged towards the goalkeeper and unleashed a shot that sailed deep into the net.
In another tie, Evergreen battled to a 1-1 draw in a closely-contested women’s match against Mbagala Queens but the former were declared champions based on a better points average.
Evergreen got their goal in the 19th minute through Nurat Jumanne who capitalized on a good move on the left wing and scored with a close range shot that left the Mbagala Queens goalkeeper sprawled haplessly.
Having conceded the goal, Mbagala Queens turned into a goal searching side and their efforts paid off in the 23rd minute. The equalizer was scored by Arafa Yahaya who managed to penetrate Evergreen’s defense.
The regional matches enable coaches to select players to form combine boys’ and girls’ teams to represent Temeke in the coming Airtel Rising Stars national finals to be staged at the Karume Memorial Stadium in Dar es Salaam from September 6 to 11.
Other regions expected to enter their combine teams in the national finals are Ilala, Kinondoni, Zanzibar, Morogoro, Mbeya, Lindi, Mwanza and Arusha.
