Yanga, Simba in tricky derby

Traditional rivals, Young Africans SC and Simba SC, meet in a tense Mainland Premier League encounter at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam this afternoon.

The match is unpredictable as both teams have been showing class in recent encounters. Simba has won a series of matches under a new coach and will be eyeing revenge while Yanga will be targeting to overcome a hiatus of one match loss since the league season opened. They will gun to win to return to the pilot seat.

Yanga beat Simba 2-0 when the teams met in the first leg on September 26 last year on the same venue. The goals were registered by Amissi Tambwe in the 44th minute and Malimi Busungu in the 79th minute.
Simba currently lead the 16-team pack with 45 points followed by Yanga with 43 points.

Simba who last won the league title in 2011, have played one game more than defending champions Yanga.
A win for will be beneficial for Yanga to return to the top of the league and for Simba to extend their lead.

Simba have of late been performing well since Ugandan Jackson Mayanga took over as a caretaker coach from Englishman Dylan Kerr.

Mayanja has not lost a game since he joined the team, boosting the morale of their fans and the team’s performances.
Simba who camped in Morogoro ahead of the derby won their last two premier league matches at the Kambarage Stadium in Shinyanga. They first defeated Kagera Sugar 1-0 before edging Stand United 2-1.

Yanga went directly to their Pemba camp last Sunday after they defeated Cerle de Joachim 1-0 in the Champions League preliminary round, first leg match in Mauritius.

Simba will rely on their dependable Ugandan striker Hamisi Kiiza who of late has not ended a match without scoring. They will also depend on youngster Ibrahim Ajib.

Yanga who have old players than their rivals will depend on Busungu, Tambwe, Simon Msuva, Ronald Ngoma and others to tame Simba.

The entrance fee for the game range from Sh7,000 to Sh30,000.
