Three Chinese dragged to court in ongoing illegal immigrant sweep

THREE Chinese men were on Monday dragged before the Kisutu Resident Magistrate Court in Dar es Salaam charged with three counts including unlawful presence in the country and working without valid work permits.

Method Kagoma,the State Attorney from the Immigration Department led the prosecution and named the accused as Yan Zhao (35), Zhao Chanjuan (28) and Li Xingguang (18), all Chinese nationals and who now unlawfully reside in Sinza, Dar es Salaam..
Before Resident Magistrate Huruma Shahidi, it was alleged that the Chinese national committed the offence on January 8, this year in Sinza, Kinondoni District, Dar es Salaam.
It was alleged that on that day, the accused were found to be in the country unlawfully without valid visas among other legal documents.
Kagoma further alleged that on the same date and place contrary to section 31(1) (m)and (2) of immigration Act [Cap 54 R.E 2002] as amended by Act number 08 of 2015 the accused were found engaging in work as Technical Managers at an IT firm named Rafiki Tz.Com without valid Work Permits.
On the third count, it was alleged that the accused also obstructed immigration officers from performing their duties by refusing to show their Chinese passports as they were ordered to do.
