PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is today expected to launch an intervention project aimed at addressing conflicts over control of land and water resources between farmers and pastoralists.
Adam Malima, the Morogoro regional commissioner, said at midweek that the programme dubbed ‘caring for one another’ is to be launched in Mvomero District today, as the president conducts a working tour of the region.
He made this remark when addressing journalists about the president’s visit before it started, and yesterday President Samia talked of the programme in Gairo District, on the first day of the regional tour.
The programme will be launched in Mvomero District, designed to promote harmony and cooperation between herders and farmers, with expectations f alleviating conflicts between the two groups.
Additionally, the president inaugurated a district hospital and road projects built with funds from the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) and the Tanzania Roads Agency (TanRoads) in Gairo District.
She acknowledged the challenges faced by the region, including limited access to clean water, assuring the community that efforts were ongoing to provide access to clean water by the end of the year.
The president similarly pledged to address challenges raised by legislators from the area, namely Prof Palamagamba Kabudi (Kilosa) and Ahmed Shabiby (Gairo), with the Kikosa MP requesting an industrial park in Dumila town to attract processing plants.
The Gairo MP called for the construction of a new market, a modern bus terminal and three irrigation dams to mitigate the effects of drought, raised as the president inspected various development projects.
The projects scattered across different sectors reflect extensive government investment to enhance the region's economic and social progress, she stated, assuring the residents that the government will address challenges raised.
She reminded the public that the government had allocated 34bn/- to ensure Gairo District receives clean water, while proceeding with the tour to Mvomero, Kilosa, Kilombero districts as well as Morogoro municipality.
