A TEAM of lawyers and advocates from the Samia Legal Aid campaign has accompanied President Samia Suluhu Hassan on her visit to the Morogoro region to listen to and solve the people's various challenges.
President Samia is on a six-day visit to the Morogoro region, which started on the 2nd and is expected to end on the 7th of this month.
Speaking to this newspaper yesterday, the Assistant Director of Justice Monitoring of the Ministry of Constitution and Legal Affairs, Beatrice Mpembo said they have accompanied President Samia to listen and solve the challenges of citizens who need legal help.
"We will be with the President for the duration of her visit here in Morogoro and we are with our Honorable Minister Pindi Chana and legal assistants at the district and regional levels. Whenever the Honorable President arrives, if someone has a legal challenge, we take it up and work on it," she said.
"Through this visit, we have provided legal assistance to various citizens and even the Maasai community, we have met them in various places and we have given them legal education regarding their frequent land disputes," said Beatrice.
She said that while other lawyers were on the president tour, other lawyers and advocates through the Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign provide legal aid services at the Nane Nane fair in the Morogoro region.
Beatrice said the team of lawyers arrived in the Morogoro region on Thursday and is continuing to serve various citizens with different legal problems by providing them with legal assistance.
Since the lawyers arrived at the Nane Nane square in the Morogoro region, many citizens have been coming to the Samia Legal Aid booth in the exhibition where they have been given legal help.
Mama Samia is in the region here for a visit to inspect various development projects in the districts of the Morogoro Region and so far she has visited Gairo District, Kilosa, Mvomero, and Kilombero District.
One of the citizens who got the legal aid service, Jerome Kiangi, congratulated President Samia for her decision to help the citizens who were not able to solve their legal problems.
"I congratulate President Samia for her love for Tanzanians. He has realized that many of us need legal help. I have come here, I have heard from lawyers and they have said that my problem will be solved. I am very grateful," said the citizen.
Another citizen, John Lubeja praised the action of President Samia to send lawyers to the exhibition as they have been a savior for citizens who cannot get legal services.
"To get a lawyer is very expensive, so when services like these are brought closer to the people like here at the fair again for free, it is a very comforting thing and very commendable," said Lubeja.
Samia Legal Aid Campaign was launched in April last year starting from Dodoma region and until now seven regions have been reached.
Other regions reached are Manyara, Singida, Simiyu, Shinyanga Njombe and Ruvuma and from this month they expect to go to the other 19 regions.
