The head teacher of Butakare Primary School in Bunda District,  Ezekiel Janes Sariro, has won the contest for the post of economy and finance secretary of the ruling party (CCM) at the district level.

Sariro scooped 114 votes against 19 for Athumani Saranga  (Mambo) and 13 for Kandoro Chanila, in a poll held here late Thursday.

During his campaign Sariro promised voters that he would unite all

teachers in the district and align them behind the ruling party, a change that would help to end recurring conflicts between teachers and the government.

In the Thursday poll, businessperson Mwikwabe Chinga won the post of assistant economy and finance secretary in the district after securing 89 votes against 55 cast for Sarat Mimi.

Another contestant who lost in the run for the post was John Kitang'osa, who is secretary to the serving Bunda MP and senior cabinet minister Steven Wassira, who got 38 votes in the first round and then dropped.

CCM Bunda District Secretary Sospeter Nyigoti said that during the poll five members of the party's district council were elected.

He named them as Paul Chikomati, Mwita Mang’era, Sophia Makumulo, Kanazi Fulgence and Emmanuel Magoti.

Addressing the gathering at the conclusion of the election meeting, the District CCM chairperson elect, Chacha Gimanwa, called upon members to do away with camps grouping behind certain contesters now that the election was over. It is time to get united and strengthen solidarity, he emphasized.
