RUVUMA Regional Commissioner Col. Ahmed Abbas Ahmed has commended leadership of Songea Municipal Council for implementing six out of eight directives given by the Local Authorities Accounts Committee (LAAC) in 2022.

The RC gave the congratulations during a council meeting to discuss implementation of the LAAC’s directives at the Songea Municipal Council Hall yesterday.

He, however, said that there are 53 arguments and proposals that need to be worked on and closed, in addition to the 12 council arguments from previous years that have not been fully addressed and closed.

The RC also congratulated Namtumbo District Council for implementing five out of six instructions of LAAC.

He said that among the three LAAC’s instructions, two have been implemented and closed, while the third has not been implemented in the past four years.

“I kindly request the honourable councillors to closely monitor the processing of 44 arguments and proposals in Songea District Council so they can be closed. This will ensure that all arguments are addressed in a proper manner,” he said.

Menas Komba, Songea District Council Chairman, pledged to increase the pace of tax collection while also ensuring that all disagreements in the council are resolved.

Songea Municipal Mayor Michael Mbano said that the council worked on the six of LAAC's instructions and would implement the final two and close them.
